We spoke in a previous article about the announcement by Facebook’s Guru Mark Zuckerberg on the new algorithms in 2018. It has become much trickier to ensure your organic content gets the screen time it deserves and Zuckerberg says they essentially want to go back to what Facebook originally set out to do, which is ensure people engage in more ‘meaningful interactions.’

The idea is to go back to more conversations and interactions between users that go beyond just winks and likes. - Don’t try to get comments – We start with a ‘don’t’ because it’s an important one. The new algorithm favours posts that draw comment, but as an advertiser don’t try to force comments for your post – “Please comment if you agree with this!” Not only does it sound cheesy and desperate, but Facebook call it ‘Engagement bait’ and they penalise anyone using it!
- Make lots of videos – As we’ve said so many times before – we are by nature visual creatures and video, especially live video (see a PS digital article on live streaming) receives 6 times more interaction between users than any other medium! For this reason it is highly favoured on Facebook in accordance with the new algorithm.
- Create great content – The biggest message that Zuckerberg is putting out is that Facebook now highly favours content, whether it is visual, written or a bit of both.
