Too often you hear it said “Well I have a website, but I never get any business from it.” Invariably this is for two primary reasons: a) You are not driving people to your website. You need to have effective Digital and Social Media advertising and be engaging in content on social media platforms.
b) You are not impressing people when they land on it. Visually, from a layout point of view and through poor content, you are just telling people who you are – and possibly not even doing that very well.
Well, in this article we address these issues and in the hopes of always giving you, our customers and potential customers, really useful advice, here are 5 perfect pointers to make your website work for you… One: Ad – vice – On that point of driving people to your website – create custom pages for the products and services you are trying to sell. When they do come to you and land, they should not be just landing on the home page, but on the page that tells them of the product offering. This takes people more directly to the point of sale.
Two: Good Images – Try to avoid stock images that are seen all over the place. Original, professionally produced pictures will always impress and make you stand out. Also, match the brand to the picture. Do not just use product photos, but rather pictures of people using and enjoying the products. Finally, use video clips if you can afford it. Research shows that video often sells people immediately online.
Three: Solid Layout – The format of a layout essentially should be images at the top of page – the reason is because we are naturally drawn to images -and these images should draw attention. So should the accompanying headers which should make strong statements (see next section on ‘content’). Avoid clutter and too much content – keep the look and the messages simple and effective. The company logo comes later – even possibly at the ‘footer,’ where you should have appropriate links to other pages and to social media etc.
Four: Convincing content – The error that so many make is that their website home page only tells people who they are and what they do. The first thing to establish is how do you help and who do you serve? Even ask a few questions to see if people are on the right page. Then state who you are and give just an overview of your services with links to services pages. Finally tell people why they should use you as opposed to anyone else. I.E. your unique selling proposition (USP)
Five: Monitoring and marketing – No matter how good it looks and what it says, your website is a white Elephant if you are not driving traffic to it, because of that it should be well hosted and using Digital Marketing and Social Media Marketing tools like Google Ads (and many others) and creating meaningful content that is regularly posted on Social Media platforms you should be reaching and engaging with people.
