We spoke in a previous article about the announcement by Facebook’s Guru Mark Zuckerberg on the new algorithms in 2018. It has become much trickier to ensure your organic content gets the screen time it deserves and Zuckerberg says they essentially want to go back to what Facebook originally set out to do, which is ensure people engage in more ‘meaningful interactions.’

In that article we spoke about the 5 main ways that Facebook now calls for more interactive content. The idea is to go back to more conversations and interactions between users that go beyond just winks and likes. Apart from more ‘meaningful interactions’ though, there are many other ways to still make marketing on Facebook pay, but there are a few that really stand out. So in this article we look at ‘Half a dozen ways to still capture clients on Facebook…

  • Don’t try to get comments – We start with a ‘don’t’ because it’s an important one. The new algorithm favours posts that draw comment, but as an advertiser don’t try to force comments for your post – “Please comment if you agree with this!” Not only does it sound cheesy and desperate, but Facebook call it ‘Engagement bait’ and they penalise anyone using it!
  • Make lots of videos – As we’ve said so many times before – we are by nature visual creatures and video, especially live video (see a PS digital article on live streaming) receives 6 times more interaction between users than any other medium! For this reason it is highly favoured on Facebook in accordance with the new algorithm.
  • Create great content – The biggest message that Zuckerberg is putting out is that Facebook now highly favours content, whether it is visual, written or a bit of both. Meaningful interactions are created through engaging, interesting content. It is known as ‘content marketing’ and professional Social Media Marketing experts can help you create it.
  • Create groups – The new algorithm highly favours community building and there is no better way to do this than through creating community groups. Businesses should be seen to be more community conscious and connecting through making people aware of events and social conscience initiatives!
  • Piggy back on respected Influencers – People who have a massive following on social media are known as ’Influencers’ and it is through these Influencers that many businesses do business by creating partnerships with or piggy backing on them. Because they create communication though content, they are highly favoured under the new Facebook algorithm.
  • Do more Facebook ads – Obviously part of the initiative behind the new algorithm is to encourage businesses to do more Facebook advertising. Because Facebook is deprioritising content from brands and publishers, advertising skills will be more important than ever. Businesses must know how to target the right audiences to ensure their advertising dollars go further!
